Calling all music lovers …

I only recently discovered something I have been missing out on and want to share my discovery with Kangaroo Valley residents … Music Shoalhaven Sunday afternoon live music concerts, performances of every genre, and at a very affordable price.

On the afternoon of Sunday June 23rd I was at the Nowra School of Arts listening to the “Brass Passports”, three superb brass players accompanied by an excellent pianist (2nd in an International Piano Competition). The hall was warm, the acoustics excellent and the musicians of first class quality and yet I could see none of the usual people who attend concerts in Kangaroo Valley or Berry. Where was everybody? Then I wondered if perhaps many people, like me, were unaware of Music Shoalhaven?

This association has been in existence for 76  years, bringing musicians to Nowra to perform every couple of months. Some of the people who have performed here in the past are Joan Sutherland, Roger Woodward, Tamara Cislowska, Jane Rutter, Diana Doherty, the Sydney String Quartet and many other well known performers, groups and choirs. If you are not familiar with the Nowra School of Arts building it is a wonderful venue and the large Art Deco room has really great acoustics (often commented on by the performers). It is in Berry Street, (opposite the art gallery) and conveniently adjacent to a very large car park.  Every concert is followed by a slap-up afternoon tea and a chance to chat to the musicians. The concerts are held at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon at a cost of only $40 .

The next one is “The Harp Journey “ presented by Louise Johnson, who will be bringing seven harps ranging through time from medieval to electric – 2:00 pm, 4th August .

So what are you waiting for ?

Nowra is so close to both Berry and Kangaroo Valley. Don’t miss these opportunities to hear such talented musicians at a fraction of the cost at bigger venues .

Visit Music Shoalhaven on https://www.musicshoalhaven.org.au/newsletter and be sure not to miss the next great concert.
