Preschool News October 2024

Sue and her dog “Tig” from the “Responsible Pet Ownership” team came to visit us at preschool and teach us about how to be safe around dogs as well as how to keep dogs happy.
Sue explained that dogs can’t talk, so we have to watch their body language to work out how they are feeling.

We learned about playing safely with dogs – with a grown up supervising. Sue also taught us about times it is not ok to touch our dog – when it is eating, sleeping, tied up, looking after puppies or feeling sick. We learned what to do if an angry dog approaches us – stand very still, keep your hands by your side, be as quiet as a mouse and look at the ground. We learned about asking an owner if we can pat their dog. Then came the best part of all – we practiced the steps for asking to pat a dog we don’t know by asking Sue and Tig if we could have a pat!

We shared songs and picture stories to remind us of all these important safety skills. If you would like to find out more, go to the website www.pettown.nsw.gov.au where you will find information and games.

The preschool would like to thank everyone who donated to our “Go Fund Me” page so that we could buy a security system. A huge thank you also to the Friendly Inn Social Club for donating the balance of the cost for the project. The system is installed and ready for action in case anyone gets up to mischief here again.

Thanks also to everyone who helped make the Preschool election day bake sale a great success. The “Democracy Sweets” stall raised $764.00 for the preschool. Thanks for baking, buying and being there to sell the delicious goodies.
