Since the Kangaroo Valley East Timor Friendship Group fundraiser held last November, a number of Valley residents have become sponsors of students in the Manlueana house in Dili, and their funds will be forwarded on to be disbursed by the Funds Management Committee (FMC).
Our partners (Padre David and the National Youth Development organisation) are overseeing the development of the student-based FMC. All of the students are so keen that the whole household has been turning up at meetings and luckily, as it happens, two of the students are studying accounting and banking!
Our sponsorship program for these students is ongoing; there are still some students needing such support. Amazingly, from an Australian perspective, AU$1,000 covers the cost of one student’s tertiary fees, and contributes to food and electricity for one year!
