The Easter rush, together with juggling several other commitments, has really caught up with us this month, so the Bowls report will be somewhat truncated. A full report will be included in next month’s Voice.

Open Pennants

The Open Pennant competition concluded in the past month. On 8 March, the Grade 3 team won all three matches, defeating Huskisson by 93 points to 25 and securing all 10 competition points. The Grade 6 team travelled to Culburra and won two of the three matches, with a total score of 57 to 42, earning nine of the available 10 points.

Away to Mollymook on 15 March, the Grade 3 team won the scoreboard by 70 points to 62 despite only winning one of the three matches, thereby earning 8 competition points. The Grade 6 team managed to win only one game against Shoalhaven Heads and went down by 50 points to 63 on the scoreboard to earn one competition point.

In their final game against Nowra on 22 March, the Grade 3 team had a very hard-fought victory despite only winning one match. Scoring a total of 56 points to 53, they managed to earn 8 of the 10 competition points. The Grade 6 team also earned 8 competition points in their match against Callala despite only winning one match. Unbelievably, they won the scoreboard by 58 points to 57. A remarkable outcome for both teams.

Due to a rain delay, the Grade 6 team had to play against Shoalhaven Heads on 12 April and Culburra on 13 April. In the first match, Shoalhaven Heads proved too strong, winning two of the three matches and taking the scoreboard by 65 points to 58. Once again, we only won one match in our game against Culburra, but we won the total scoreboard by 59 points to 45 to finish our season on a high note with 8 competition points. I find myself saying the same thing every year at the completion of the Pennant Season – “there’s always next year”.

The Grade 3 team finished on top of their section and will now progress to area play-offs against Malua Bay at Lake Conjola on 10 May. Congratulations to the Grade 3s for an outstanding Pennant Season and good luck for the game against Malua Bay.

Next month’s Bowls report will include details of the Mixed Pairs, Challenge Pairs and hopefully the Major Pairs Championship, together with Social Bowls.
