Many readers will remember Mike Wolstenholme. He was appointed caretaker at the Kangaroo Valley Pioneer Village Museum in 2014, and he lived in the Caretaker’s Cottage in the museum grounds, with his wife Robin and four cats.
Tragically, an aggressive cancer brought Robin’s life to a premature end, and after that Mike’s own health began to deteriorate. He spent some months in hospital, and ultimately ill-health forced his retirement in 2020.
For two years Mike ran the monthly Trivia night at The Friendly Inn, and he continued to contribute the Trivia quiz to the Voice right up until his death last year.
Mike retained an attachment to the museum throughout his retirement, and on 5 January his niece Michelle came to the Valley especially to scatter Mike’s ashes in the museum grounds; she chose to pour them from the suspension bridge onto the stream below. The moving event was attended by several other family members, including some from England, and by representatives of the museum’s Board of Management and the museum’s former Wednesday maintenance group.
