Our Mothers’ Day Raffle was drawn on the 8th of May – and the lucky winners are Tuneil Mackechnie and Louise Wakefield. We hope you enjoy your goodie baskets!

The preschool has a new home corner kitchen! The children have been cooking up a storm, making lots of delicious food on the play stove. They have fed the dolls and made food for each other. They have even been doing the washing up!

Children learn to communicate and co-operate as they engage in pretend play. They explore different roles and extend their imaginations. They work out how it feels to be in different “shoes.” Pretend play helps children understand their world. The new home corner space has certainly been a catalyst for learning (EYLF Outcome 1.3.3 Children explore different identities, roles and points of view in pretend play).

The children have been participating in group games. They have to learn the sequence of the game. They build their resilience as they wait for a turn. They build confidence as they take their turn and learn to work together as the game is played. The songs and chants that accompany the games help children build their language skills.

Some of our favourite games include – “Duck, Duck, Goose,” “Punchinello,” “Kookaburra, Kookaburra, in and out the Gum Trees,” “Kangaroo, Skippy Roo” and “Looby Loo.” These games  seem simple, but they present a range of challenges for young children to learn from. The games are also fun – a very important motivator for learning! (EYLF Outcome 2.1.2 Children co-operate with others in play and in groups. EYLF Outcome 5.2.3 Children sing and chant rhymes, jingles and songs.)
