The children are settling into the new year at preschool. There has been a lot of interest in dinosaurs and spiders!
Fantastic dinosaur worlds have been created in the sand pit. The children have to share space and materials as they collaborate with each other.
Nursery rhymes have been a focus for language learning. The children are remembering the sequence of each rhyme, then extending their thinking to make up their own versions.
The lunch-time brain-storming sessions are amazing! “Humpty Dumpty sat on the lunchbox”; “Humpty Dumpty sat on my sandwich” There has been lots of laughter at meal times as the children have invented sillier and sillier things for Humpty to do.
“Incy Wincy Spider” has inspired interest in nature. We have looked up lots of different types of spiders in books and in the internet. The Peacock Spiders have been favourites. Spiders have also inspired our young artists – some amazing, coloured creatures with lots of legs have been designed.
As well as all this, the children have been making art works to enter into the Kangaroo Valley Show.
The preschool will be focusing on some serious fundraising this year. We have had some big expenses that have put a big dent in our emergency funds.
Termites were discovered in one of our external walls. The infestation proved to be quite extensive and a large area had to be replaced at a cost of almost $30,000.
Roof leaks were dampening our classroom during heavy rain, so the flashing had to be repaired which cost around $3,000.
COVID clipped our fundraising wings for a few years, so now we are going to try to re-fill the bank accounts for the future needs of the preschool.
Our first delicious fundraising venture for the year is Easter eggs. Preschool will be selling these yummy goodies around Kangaroo Valley. You will see the boxes in various locations. Please support your local preschool , and worry about the diet later!
