Preschool News

Term 2 has kicked off with fun-filled adventures as our preschoolers returned with bundles of enthusiasm and wonder. We have taken advantage of using both natural and processed materials to continue to develop our understanding of the world and to promote every child’s right to experiment and explore, ensuring they are supported to be active participants in their own learning journeys.

Colour my world

Colour mixing and outdoor explorations have taken centre stage in our learning journeys so far this term. Our preschoolers have been provided with opportunities to engage in various colour mixing experiences to stimulate multiple senses and different ways of learning. Throughout this engagement our preschool educators have taken intentional steps to support and encourage every child to hypothesise and make predictions about the outcome of their primary colour experimentations. This increases the children’s confidence to share their interpretations and ideas and develops their understanding of, and ability to communicate, scientific concepts, and their effect on the world around them.

From guidance to confidence

Our preschool team has reflected upon the importance of continuing to promote each child’s independence, autonomy and sense of agency, within the learning environment. This will be a focus in all aspects of our learning curriculum, practices and our relationships with the children. They will be supported to enact their rights, verbalise their needs and will be provided with an environment that enables them to meet these needs. From filling their own water bottles up with our water dispenser to choosing their own lockers each day by affixing a name tag, and being provided with the time, space and guidance to explore the wonder of the natural environment. Kangaroo Valley Preschool is committed to scaffolding every child to develop the confidence to see themselves as capable and active leaders of their own learning and development.

And votes of thanks

The start of Term 2 has been particularly exciting for our new teaching director, Gemma, who is settling into her new role in the Preschool. A special thank you goes out to the community, preschool families and our children for ensuring Gemma has felt welcomed – it has made her transition a pleasure.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the Election Day Bake Sale Fundraiser. To our fantastic Committee, who organised the event, crewed the sale and baked delicious treats, along with our preschool families and community members who donated their own baked items, and to every person who purchased from the bake sale – thank you, thank you, thank you. Each of your contributions led to $1100 being raised for the Preschool!
