This year Clean Up Australia Day fell on Sunday 2 March. Brogers Creek Landcare coordinated members of the Wattamolla community to continue clearing steel and plastic from the edges of our precious creek. Prime platypus habitat, floods in April and May 2024 saw significant pollution – fencing, silage wrap and corrugated iron in the main.

Our concerted focus was working downstream from the Priddles Lane crossing. From just 300 metres on both sides of the creek we managed to fill a ute! Cleaning the riparian zone is exacting, while carrying ‘lethal’ waste over difficult terrain; much remains to be done. Previous working bees have been conducted further down Brogers Creek near Walker’s dairy.

Once again we thank Shoalhaven City Council and Crocodile Waste – three skips for metal and rubbish were provided this Clean Up Australia Day and we filled them!
