Term 1 has certainly been a busy start to the year for all of our students with many rich learning opportunities and wonderful sporting achievements.
Shoalhaven Regional Art Gallery
An exciting opportunity came up for our K-2 students to attend the Shoalhaven Regional Art Gallery in Nowra to see renowned children’s book author and artist, Jeannie Baker’s exhibition and participate in an art-making workshop. It was a fabulous morning of art appreciation and making!
Easter Hat Parade
On Thursday 28th March, we held our Easter Hat Parade along Moss Vale Road. We were very pleased to see so many parents and community members come along to see all of our Easter Hats.
Cricket Knockout
Throughout the term, an incredibly enthusiastic group of 12 students have trained most lunchtimes with the support and coaching of Mr Jonathan Steele, Mrs Lyn Robinson and Mr Graeme Cochrane. Our school cricket team won their first cricket match against Cambewarra Public School at Osborne Park! Thank you to everyone who came along to support our students. We look forward to sharing details of the next round of the knockout as our students continue their training.
Small Schools Cross Country Carnival
Kangaroo Valley Public School proudly continues its involvement in the Small Schools Network made up of Terara, Falls Creek, Nowra Hill and Greenwell Point Public Schools, where we come together to participate in events such as the Small Schools Cross Country Carnival. Spirits were high at the Carnival held at Willandra on the 4th of April despite a little rain on the day! Our students were incredibly enthusiastic and pushed through with some fantastic results on the day with 26 Kangaroo Valley Public School students going on to represent our school and the Small Schools Network at the upcoming District Cross Country Carnival to be held on Thursday the 23rd of May.
Tennis Knockout
Our Kangaroo Valley Public School School Tennis Team played against Cambewarra Public School on the 10th of April. The team consisted of Elsie, Daisy, Logan, Samson, Claudia and Caleb. They won graciously and played with great sportsmanship. We look forward to sharing the details of the next round of the knockout very soon!
Debating Team
We have eight dedicated students who have been working with Mrs Robinson to prepare for their first debate. The team attended Bowral Public School for a Debating Workshop to learn more about debating including the rebuttal, arguments, definitions and speakers’ roles, as well as a few games and activities and a chance for every student to deliver a short debating speech and get some feedback. It was a great day for our students to learn new skills.
AFL Gala Day
Our Year 3 and 4 students participated in a fun day of AFL skills and games against a number of local schools. The day finished up earlier than we expected due to rain but this didn’t dampen our spirits with a fun day had by all!
Year 6 Special Food Days
Our Year 6 students have been running special food days which have provided a much-loved opportunity for students to make a purchase once a week as well as raise a small amount of funds to purchase resources for the school at the end of the year, known as the Year 6 gift to the school. The Year 6 students have been doing a fabulous job preparing and serving various items for their fellow students to purchase and have two projects in mind: new Year 6 seating or a House Point Board that they admired at Bowral Public School during a recent visit.
Bundanon
We are incredibly lucky that each of our classes will have the opportunity to visit Bundanon for a day of creative learning opportunities over the coming year. At the end of Term 1, 3/4J got to experience Bundanon and had a fantastic day in such a beautiful setting!
Sporting Schools Grant
In Term 1, our school was successful in receiving a Sporting Schools grant to provide students with opportunities to participate in sports programs and buy new sports equipment. We were lucky to have Fit Futures work with us to run Athletics Skills sessions each week to prepare students for the upcoming School, Small Schools and District Athletics carnivals. We have been working on high jump, long jump, shotput and discus. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in receiving the Sporting Schools grant for Term 2 but are hopeful to continue applying in the future.
Fitness Sessions
Our students participate in fitness sessions led by our Year 6 leaders every Tuesday and Thursday morning. It’s a great way to start the day!
Gadhungal Marring
We are pleased to have Gadhungal Marring visit the school starting in Term 2 to work with each class over 7 weeks. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the GoFundMe page and to Wes Hindmarsh for organising the fundraising to run the program in our school.
National Road Safety Week
National Road Safety Week is held between Monday the 5th and Sunday the 12th of May and, as part of this week, we will be holding a local ‘Walk Safely to School Day’ on Friday the 10th of May. We will be meeting at 8:40am at either Hampden Bridge or Nugents Creek Road to walk together to school safely.
This is a great opportunity to talk to students about road safety and to remind our community about being vigilant around our school crossing. We have preschool-aged students as well as primary school students using the crossing, so we thank everyone for slowing down to keep everyone safe.
When our school crossing is operating, it’s marked by red‑orange flags on both sides. When you see the flags, you must slow down and stop before the white stripes or ‘Stop’ line to give way to pedestrians. You must remain at a complete stop until all pedestrians have left the crossing. If the flags are not displayed, it’s not operating as a children’s crossing.
Our school crossing is normally controlled by our cheery school crossing supervisor, Bruce, unless he is away sick or is attending a school excursion in his other role as a School Learning Support Officer. When you see Bruce holding a ‘Stop – children crossing’ sign, you must slow down and stop.
You must remain at a complete stop until:
- all pedestrians have left the crossing, and
- the school crossing supervisor is no longer showing the sign.
We would like to thank the school community for being vigilant with the 40km/h speed limit in our school zone that helps to protect children on their way to and from Kangaroo Valley Public School and Preschool. The lower speed limit reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash if it were to occur in our school community.

Parent-Teacher Meetings
Our teachers met with parents throughout the last two weeks of Term 1 to discuss student progress, strengths and future goals. It was a great opportunity for parents to see their child’s work and portfolios and to ask questions they may have about their child.
Enrolments for 2025
You can now enrol for kindergarten 2025 by visiting the Kangaroo Valley Public School website via the enrolment tab:
https://kangaroova-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html
We have been slowly growing in numbers over the last few years and have held our four classes quite comfortably throughout this time. With our projected kindergarten enrolments for next year, we hope to grow to five classes, with only a few more student enrolments needed to meet the minimum numbers for a fifth class. If you know someone moving into the area, please share how wonderful our small school community is and pass on my contact details to organise a school tour and meet our school staff.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.
