KANGAROO VALLEY CMRI NEWS 2024

Thank you to the students, educators and parents of Kangaroo Valley Public School for generously participating in our annual ‘Jeans for Genes Day’. This event is a fund raising initiative of the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) which raises funds to support our country’s research into finding cures for sick children.

Our Kangaroo Valley CMRI branch was founded in 1958 by Sir Lorimer Dodds and Dr John Fulton, the superintendent of the Children’s Hospital at Camperdown in Sydney. At the time, Dorothy Brown, a resident of the Valley, had a critically ill son in Camperdown Children’s Hospital. It was there she met Professor Dodds and became an ardent supporter of his research work into cures for childhood illnesses. She decided to aid this work, formed a committee here in Kangaroo Valley and began collecting funds for this purpose. Dorothy wrote to councils throughout the state advocating similar branches to be formed. Dorothy was a very determined and energetic lady and the Kangaroo Valley branch have retained this enthusiasm for the past 66 years, as we continue to raise funds in support of children’s medical research. Donation tins have been placed at various shops in the village. Thank you to our generous business owners, community and visitors to the Valley for your interest and support for this worthwhile cause.
