Bundanon Visit
We are thrilled to share that our students recently enjoyed a day of creativity and inspiration at Bundanon, an extraordinary place where art and nature come together. This unique excursion provided an opportunity for our young artists to explore their artistic talents in a serene and stimulating environment.
The day was filled with various creative activities, including painting, drawing, and sculpting, all set against the backdrop of Bundanon’s beautiful landscape. Guided by professional artists, the students were encouraged to express themselves freely and experiment with different mediums and techniques. The hands-on experience allowed students to deepen their understanding of art and discover new ways to convey their ideas and emotions.
This enriching experience not only enhanced the students’ artistic skills but also fostered a greater appreciation for the natural world and its connection to art. It was a day filled with inspiration, creativity, and joy, and we are proud of our students for their enthusiasm and engagement.
We look forward to seeing how this experience will influence their future projects and artistic journeys. Thank you to Bundanon Trust for hosting us and providing such a memorable and inspiring day!
Tennis Knockout
In the quarter finals of the Victor J Kelly Knockout the Kangaroo Valley Public School Tennis Team played Illaroo Road Public School. The sun was shining and the kids were pumped for a big game of tennis. Under the expert coaching of Kate Hole, the team were well drilled, and they brought their A game, winning all of their sets. They now progress to the semi finals against either Goulburn East or Minnamurra Public Schools.
District Cross Country
We had a number of students qualify at the Small Schools Cross Country Carnival to move on to the District Cross Country Carnival where Kangaroo Valley Public School won the Percentage Shield! From the District Carnival, four of our students qualified for the Regional Cross Country Carnival. We wish Elijah, Matilda, Sam and Logan all the best as they represent KVPS, our Small Schools and the Shoalhaven District at the South Coast Cross Country Championships.
School Athletics Carnival
We are thrilled to share the highlights of our recent School Athletics Carnival, a day filled with excitement, teamwork, and incredible sportsmanship. The spirit of camaraderie was evident as everyone chanted their house chants with lots of energy, on the way to Osborne Park on the morning of our carnival.
The event was a resounding success, with students from all year levels participating enthusiastically in a range of athletic events. From discus, shot put, high jump, novelty events, sprints and relays, our students showcased their athletic abilities and cheered each other on! The relay events were a crowd favourite, with a teachers versus parents event to finish off the day.
We extend our thanks to all the teachers, parents and volunteers who made this day possible. A special thank you to students from Scots College, Glengarry Campus, who volunteered on the day helping to set up, run activities and pack up!
National Simultaneous Storytime
Last month we joined over 2 million children, teachers, parents and members of the community across the country to read ‘Bowerbird Blues’, written and illustrated by Aura Parker. We listened to the author read her book live from Green Square Library and show us how she illustrated her book. We heard a few interesting facts about bowerbirds and then got straight into making our own bowerbird-inspired artworks. We thoroughly enjoyed reading this beautiful book with its stunning imagery and striking illustrations!
Science
In a hands-on science lesson, students enthusiastically crafted their own rain gauges, transforming everyday materials into scientific instruments. Under the guidance of their teacher, they carefully assembled plastic bottles to create devices capable of measuring rainfall. As they worked, they learned about precipitation, data collection, and the importance of accurate measurements in meteorology. This engaging activity not only sparked their curiosity about weather patterns but also fostered teamwork and practical problem-solving skills, making science both fun and educational.
Gadhungal Marring Cultural Program
Gadhungal Marring is an Aboriginal led and operated cultural organisation here on the South Coast of NSW that is at the forefront of cultural revitalisation through teaching, language, dance, art and all aspects of culture.
Over a 7 week period, 30 minute sessions are held with each class. A welcome smoking ceremony introduced the program and what it means to follow cultural protocols. Students focused on creation stories, teaching the fundamentals of cultural values through stories, exploring Dharrawal/Dhurga language. Our students learnt about Aboriginal dance and the didgeridoo. We enjoyed the bush tucker session where students were introduced to a number of native plants and their uses. The final session focused on the traditional way of painting with ochre.
This program was funded by a community-supported ‘GoFundMe’. Many thanks to all of the families, community members and local businesses that made this possible!
KVPS Parents and Citizens Group Update
We recently held a Student Representative Council Meeting, where two students from each class represented the viewpoints of their peers, with our KVPS P&C President, Emma, attending during a lunch break. It was a great opportunity to hear ideas from students regarding how they would like to spend funds raised by the P&C. Some great ideas came out of the meeting, a few of which have already been supported, with the Kitchen Garden project gaining a budget of $500 to get underway.
We also had a really positive P&C Meeting with lots of discussion about the many fundraising opportunities coming up, including the next KV Family Flicks, the Golf Day, Ladies Long Lunch, Father’s Day Stall, Christmas Trees and Christmas Photography.
At the beginning of the year, the P&C provided each of the class teachers with a $500 budget, as well as providing an art, sport and library budget of $1000 to provide new resources for the benefit of our students. Among the purchases were building and construction sets, spelling and maths games, big books, art supplies, science models, a whole school Book Creator subscription for students to make their own books, basketball, soccer, netball, touch and cricket kits. We were also able to purchase 30 new titles to update our school library with the 2024 Children’s Book Council of Australia Shortlisted books.
Thank you for supporting our wonderful school!
