Behind the Friendly Inn lies the even friendlier FIG Community Garden.  Every Thursday morning, from 10 am to 12 noon (winter times), a group of volunteers gather to socialise, weed, compost, plant, harvest and learn.  Conversations flow while vegetables grow.  Then, we share them – fresh, organic broccoli, red cabbage, brussels sprouts and lettuces – to name but a few.  The blueberries are in flower, a darling pink, the strawberries creep, the turmeric flourishes.

Our fearless leader and President, Lyn Rutherford, and the committee members – Kerry Fletcher, Suzanne Greer, Tanya Southworth – welcome each volunteer with kindness and warmth.  Turning up to the working bee is never a chore.  Here, people are the centre, plants the pretty backdrop.  The morning teas become ever more delicious.

We invite you to come and see the action for yourself – all are welcome, regardless of gardening expertise.

Young children love to visit.  We encourage this but respectfully ask adults to supervise their activities.

Kate Holywell, volunteer.
