Ladies’ Bowls

I would have only had a small report this month due to the Final of the Minor Singles being washed out last Tuesday and Rob has all of his catch-up news from the truncated report in the last Voice edition. I will therefore graciously step aside and allow him to fill our publishing quota and pass on some exciting news. 😊

Open Pennants

If you have ever wondered what on earth ‘Pennants’ means, have a good, long look at the accompanying photograph. Yes, that’s right! The Berry Grade Three side won the Regional Final against Malua Bay, and therefore the ‘Pennant’, at Lake Conjola on 10 May 2025. Three players from Kangaroo Valley played in the Grade Three side all season – Adam Rigney, ‘Tige’ Lidbetter and ‘Jingles’ Chittick. Tige and David Badger were unavailable to play in the final, so Lachlan Price (from Wattamolla) and I got the call up to play and I have to say that it was great to be part of this momentous occasion.

All three matches were hard-fought and played in the true spirit of the game. Berry won two of the three matches and won the overall scoreboard by 64 points to 51. In addition to winning the Pennant, all players in the winning team were awarded a medallion commemorating the win. Berry will now proceed to the State Playoffs at Yamba on 28 June. Congratulations Berry on a truly remarkable season and good luck at the State Playoffs.

Major Pairs

On 2 April, Jim Abbott and Tige Lidbetter won a very close match against Bill Capple and Greg Williams, by 18 points to 16. Tige and Jim will play Paul Bezant and Ben Watson in the semifinal to determine who will play against Bob Dunn and myself in the final.

Mixed Pairs

Irene and Bob Dunn won a tight match on 1 April against Tina Ballard and Steve Kellett, by 18 points to 16, and Laurel Ferrington and Darryl Goodger went down to David Badger and Sue Sheil. On 9 April Gillian Portener and Terry Bezant fought hard against Margaret and Terry Hayes but were unable to overcome this very strong side. Deb and I progressed to the next round with a 21 to 16 victory over Deirdre Reid and Graham Hook on 16 April. On 7 June, Irene and Bob Dunn eventually won an absolute nail-biter against Judy Whitton and Col Agar, with a final score of 15 points to 14.

Challenge Pairs

Whilst I don’t have any details, Col Agar and Frank Picciolini, starting with a two-point deficit, defeated Ron Nelson and Darryl Goodger on 16 April. On the same day Keith Pepper and ‘Skippy’ Chittick, starting with a one-point advantage, won their match against Rick Attard and Steve Kellett. Bob Dunn and I were successful in our match against Skippy and Keith on 3 May and we now progress to the final against Col Agar and Frank Picciolini.
