A group of local fellas has been meeting every month for three-and-a-half years at the Friendly Inn for a meal and to share the highs and lows of their journey through this thing we call life. We are part of a nationwide movement known as the Men’s Table.
The Men’s Table is a not-for-profit charity formed in 2018, when a group of men meeting for lunch to talk business realised the value and importance of men sharing from the heart. The men soon realised the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits to each other of talking about how they feel about the stuff that is happening in their lives.
They decided these benefits were too important not to share; that is when Ben Hughs and David Pointon created the Men’s Table. Since then, the Men’s Table has grown to be in every state and territory across the country, with more than 230 tables and 3000 men sitting at tables to share a meal and share their journey.
The secret to keeping our table healthy and functioning over these three-and-a-half years has been a set of guidelines known as the Fundamentals. These guidelines ensure that we maintain a safe, confidential and reflective space where men’s diversity is appreciated and there is no judgment. It is only by ensuring that these fundamentals are honoured can we feel safe to share from our hearts and go beyond banter.
We have all shared each other’s bumps and scrapes through life and have laughed and cried with each other. This is truly a unique space, where men, no matter what walk of life you come from, care for each other and support each other with integrity and humour.
We have two spots at our table for new men and would welcome any man who is looking for a group of men to have a real conversation that goes beyond, and to connect socially. If this sounds like you, please get in touch with the Men’s Table on 1800 636 782 or email at hello@themenstable.org.
